I love to hear the arguments of those “religious” people who “pick and choose” portions of their religion that they agree with and discard other portions that they do not. For example, most people today would disagree with the idea of slavery; but during the time of the bible it was widely accepted. And in portions of the bible it clearly condoned slavery. So, today, people will say something like, “oh, yeah, that was just the product of the time.” or “this book was written so long ago, and those types of things change over time”. These arguments lead you in the direction of my point – why are you following a book written over 2,000 years ago line by line. And if the Bible is God’s will, then shouldn’t we all follow the bible to the tee. But, hardly anyone really does… I’m not saying we should all start owing slaves, but if you are christian than maybe you should – if you are trying to follow and practice your religion. Again, most people would argue, “how could you tell me that god wanted slavery”. Exactly, and again you’re proving my point. Not everything in the Bible holds up to today’s moral or ethical standards. In fact, a lot of it can be considered primitive. So, can you still consider yourself a Christian if you don’t follow the bible’s every word… The bible’s not perfect – but wasn’t it created by “god’s will”, thus making it perfect? Wasn’t God speaking through the written word of the bible? Is God’s will not perfect? Or could it be that the Bible’s not perfect, because it was written by man? For what it’s worth, I believe it’s the latter…
